What is microneedling?

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?
Liquid gold! PRP facial rejuvenation combined with microneedling utilizes your body’s own blood to promote collagen production and trigger growth factors naturally rejuvenate your skin. The procedure includes drawing a small amount of your blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the platelets from other blood components. Microneedling + PRP can be performed on the face, neck, chest, back, hands, stretch marks/striae and on scarring present on the body. Microneedling + PRP is a great alternative to resurfacing laser procedures for patients who are not candidates or who are seeking less downtime.
What to expect during a microneedling treatment?
The skin is cleansed and numbed with topical lidocaine/tetracaine to ensure the treatment is very comfortable. Because we are using tiny sterile needles, generalized redness and pin-point bleeding of the skin is expected. Afterwards, a BioCellulose mask is recommended, but not required to decrease post treatment redness by 50%.
Following treatment completion, the skin will be a generalized red color and patients may experience tenderness and some swelling for 24-48 hours, similar to a moderate sunburn.
What to expect during a microneedling + PRP treatment?
For patients wanting accelerated results, PRP can be added to microneedling to exponentiate anti-aging correction and faster healing times. During treatment your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream will be applied for 20 minutes. While numbing, a small sample of blood will be drawn and spun in a centrifuge to remove the platelets concentrated in plasma, from the sample. The PRP is then microneedled into the skin and applied to the skin at the end of treatment.
How long does microneedling + PRP take?
SkinPen microneedling/PRP procedure will take approximately two and half hours.
Post Care Instructions:
You will go home with two products after treatment. Microneedling creates open microscopic injuries in the skin. Patients cannot use any products other than the products provided until all redness has subsided. Patients must refrain from heavy sweating and makeup for until all redness has subsided, approximately 24-48 hours. After redness subsides, the skin will moderately peel for approximately 3 days.
It is absolutely recommended to use medical-grade skin care to nourish the skin and feed important active ingredients into the skin that will aid in collagen production and repair.
